Melbourne Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn will partner with the sprint star All Silent at next month’s Manikato Stakes. Trainer Grahame Begg confirmed the services of Shinn after he and All Silent partnered in a Warwick Farm racecourse barrier trial for the first time on Monday morning.

horse racingBegg said that not much jockeys are riding like Shinn as of present. Also, All Silent has not competed since finishing fifth at a Group Three sprint race in Dubai last March when Corey Brown was his jockey. In his 2009 spring campaign at Melbourne, Nick Hall was All Silent’s jockey and their partnership resulted in a victory at the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic.

Hall also rode All Silent in the Hong Kong Sprint last December and in the Newmarket Handicap last autumn. For All Silent, Begg has mapped out a two-start campaign which got two wins for the seven-year-old race horse a year ago.

The trainer from Randwick has one again set his eyes on the Patinack Farm Classic that will be held on the last day of the Melbourne Cup carnival although he changed his strategy with the first-up run. Begg will have All Silent compete at the Group 1 Manikato Stakes under the flood lights of the Moonee Valley racecourse on the 24th of September.

Begg’s usual lead-up race for the Patinack Farm Classic is the Gilgai Stakes which was won last year by All Silent. Begg said that the timing of the Manikato is just right for their main goal because the Manikato Stakes is held just eight days before the Gilgai Stakes. Begg also said that he can always fall back to the Gilgai Stakes if the Manikato Stakes will be competed in a bog track.

All Silent is gunning for his third Group One victory at the Flemington spring racing carnival in as many years. He won the Emirates Stakes in 2008 to live up to expectations although he finished at the back of the pack during his barrier trial but was given the easiest time possible against seven competitors.

Begg said that he basically wanted his horse to have a day out and it benefited him that he went on with the 800-metre trial without blinkers. Begg also revealed that All Silent will have another barrier trial at the Warwick Farm racecourse on the 10th of September before going to Melbourne. During the same trials, All Silent’s stablemate Palacio de Cristal will make her first public appearance.
