After the first declarations for the 2010 WS Cox Plate, Macau’s Luen Yat Forever is the only internationally-trained entry. Macau’s pin-up horse is completing his quarantine at the International Horse Centre in Werribee. The horse is now owned by Lloyd Williams and will be privately trained by Robert Hickmoff.
During the first day of declaration for the 2040-metre WS Cox Plate which will be held on the 23rd of October at the Mooney Valley Racecourse, 89 race horses signified their intention to participate in the race. Among these horses are defending WS Cox Plate champion So You Think and the reigning Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.
Also included in the first set of acceptances are Whobegotyou, Heart of Dreams, More Joyous, Theseo, Metal Bender, Linton and three-year-old race horses Lion Tamer, Yosei, Altius and Toorak Toff. Also, the first declarations for the Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas are already in.
The Thousand Guineas is exclusively for three-year-old female race horses. The Caulfield Guineas will be staged on the 9th of October while the Thousand Guineas will scorch the Caulfield Racecourse on the 13th of October. There are 92 Caulfield Guineas first acceptors but Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness is not included.
Some of the top-notch Australian race horses that are first acceptors for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas are the Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff, Champagne Stakes winner Skilled, Smokin’ Joey, Altius and Kudakulari. Defending champion Starspangledbanner joined the first acceptor’s mix too.
More bad news coming in as Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily is out of contention for both the Caulfield and the Thousand Guineas due to an injury. Curtana is also not on the list of the first 100 acceptors for the Thousand Guineas. The second declarations for the Caulfield Guineas, Thousand Guineas and WS Cox Plate will end on the 21st of September.
For the betting market of the 2010 WS Cox Plate, So You Think is the top favourite with a 4.00 while Shoot Out is close behind him with a 6.50 betting odd. Following on their heels are Metal Bender and Whobegotyou which has betting odds of 12.00 and 13.00 respectively. Not to be disregarded are Typhoon Tracy and Theseo with betting odds of 16.00 and 17.00 respectively.
