After his victory at the 2400-metre, Group 1 The Metropolitan, Herculian Prince was given a two-kilogram penalty to boost his chances of participating in the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup. Now carrying a weight of 53.5 kilograms, the five-year-old race horse is now 19th on the order of entry for the 2010 Caulfield Cup. Prior to that, Herculian Prince was in 36th place.

For his Melbourne Cup status, the gelding of Yamanin rose from the 84th spot to the 29th after the third declarations for the $6 million, Group 1 race was released. Due to the big jump that Herculian Prince gained in the two races, SportsBet has adjusted its betting odds for Herculian Prince as well. For the Caulfield Cup, he now has a 10.00 betting odd which is second behind Metal Bender.

For the Melbourne Cup, SportsBet gave him a 21.00 betting odd. Greg Carpenter, Chief Handicapper for the Victoria Racing Club said that the handicap that he gave to Herculian Prince is due to the dominant performance that he handed at the Metropolitan Handicap. The handicap is of the same nature with the one given to Speed Gifted last year.

Aside from Herculian Prince, the Lloyd Williams-owned C’est La Guerre is moving up the Caulfield Cup charts as well. A third placer in the 2008 Melbourne Cup, C’est La Guerre went through the first balloting for the 2010 Caulfield Cup after his victory at the 2000-metre, Group 3 Craven Plate. The six-year-old thoroughbred moved from the 54th spot in the order of entry to the tenth spot. SportsBet also gives C’est La Guerre a Caulfield Cup betting odd of 26.00.

Meanwhile, New Zealand race horse Harris Tweed was not given a penalty despite winning the 2500-metre Listed The Bart Cummings at the Flemington Racecourse. Thus, the Murray and Bjorn Baker-trained horse will still have a race weight of 54 kilograms for both the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup and his order of entry for the two races are 10th and 17th respectively. Also, his betting odds for the two races are 51.00 and 26.00 respectively.
