Trainer Brian Dean is starting 2011 on a high note as he won two races to get a head start for the 2011 Premiership trophy. In 2010, Dean finished fourth in the Premiership with 50 victories. Dean’s first victory when Super Lucky Colour with jockey Soo Khoon Beng on board at the 1200-metre, $55,000 Celebrations Handicap.

Kranji RacingMeanwhile, Dean’s second victory came with Best Knight and jockey John Powell at the 1400-metre, $95,000 Good Fortune Handicap. Best Knight won by 1 ¼ lengths over Volpista and jockey Barend Vorster and My Drumbeat with jockey Robbie Fradd finishing third. Before the start of the races, Dean said that it is hard to win at the start of the season for every trainer looks to start fast.

With Best Knight’s victory, his career prize money goes over the $400,000 mark. Out from the barrier gates, Powell goaded Best Knight to a good jump as he went on to the early lead over Mr. Timely, Volpista and My Drumbeat. Mr. Timely and jockey Danny Beasley had all the opportunities to pursue Best Knight but Powell judged the pace very well en route to a victory.

Dean is happy about Best Knight’s performance and what made it more impressive is that rain visited the Kranji racecourse during the race. Meanwhile, Powell said that Best Knight wants to remain in front as early as possible and maintain the pace to win. He also commended trainer Dean for a great job that he has done with the horses. Best Knight’s latest victory is his ninth out of 29 career races.
