Jockey Corey Brown will not compete in Caulfield Guineas day due to his five-race suspension at the Canterbury Racecourse last Wednesday due to racing interference. Brown was scheduled to ride Drumbeats in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap on Caulfield Guineas day at Melbourne on Saturday.
During the 1250-metre Chifley Financial Services Plate, Brown was charged with interference when he allowed Palomares to shift in the straight which caused interference to Adularia, Dreamcoat and Mongolia. During his last three Sydney horse racing meets, the Melbourne Cup winning jockey steered nine winners including a victory at the Group 1 George Main Stakes with More Joyous.
At the Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, Brown will be riding Once Were Wild in the Epsom Handicap and Giresun in the Spring Champion Stakes. He will also be aboard Macedonian in the Metropolitan and Parables in the Flight Stakes.
In other Caulfield Guineas news, Seriously Good locked a spot at the Caulfield Guineas by breaking his maiden status to win over Smokin’ Joey by ¼ length at the 1440-meter Carsales.com.au Handicap at the Caulfield Racecourse. It was Seriously Good’s fifth career race. Seriously Good was sold by Kevin Thomas of Washpool Lodge for $20,000 as a yearling at the Magic Millions sales in October last year.
Trainer Peter Morgan gave the Bel Esprit youngster a price tag of $80,000 but he was then sold to owner Bruch Mathieson for $360,000. Morgan said that Seriously Good is seriously improving though he has weight and white cell issues. For the Caulfield Guineas on the 9th of October, Seriously Good was given a TAB SportsBet betting odds of 26.00 while Smokin’ Joey has an 18.00 betting odd for the said race.
Smokin’ Joey trainer Lee Freeman said that his horse is out to compete in the Caulfield Guineas and in the Victoria Derby. Meanwhile, the Leon Corstens-trained Melted earned a start at the Thousand Guineas with a win at the 1440-metre Schweppes Handicap. It was Corstens’ first win after a suspension of six months.
