Bankable Won’t Cash In at SIA
Due to a hairline fracture on her off-fore leg, trainer Herman Brown has ruled out Bankable from the S$3m, Group 1 Singapore Airlines International (SIA) Cup on 16 May. The thoroughbred sustained the injury after a gallop training session in Dubai.
Bankable finished third behind Gloria De Campeao and Presvis in the 2009 edition of this 2000m contest. Also, she came in second after another SIA Cup contender AL SHEMALI in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free last March. A six-year-old Irish gelding, Bankable had been under the spell of injury for practically the entire week after her hairline fracture was diagnosed via scintigraphic technology.
Leading up to the Singapore Airlines Cup, Al Shemali ran for 1000 metres at the grass track. She was running on half-speed from the start until the 800-metre mark then she stepped it up to three-quarters pace from the 600 metre mark up until she reached the last furlong. Al Shemali’s last 600 metres was clocked in at 39.2 seconds while her last 200m is at 12.5 seconds.
On the other hand, Gloria de Campeao had a one-lap warm-up on the polytrack before cantering on the next lap then riding home with Christophe Bretez. Also, SIA Cup Japanese competitors Yamanin Kingly and Shadow Gate were allowed to do some walking for one hour at the quarantine compound.
As for the other competitors, Presvis cantered for 1400 metres on the Polytrack, Lizard’s Desire blew out 400 metres on the Polytrack, Lahaleeb had a slow canter on the Polytrack with race jockey John Egan on board, Drovetti worked a light canter and swam the swimming pool for two laps and Waikato had two light canter laps on the Polytrack.
In other news, Ntini has been called up for the Group 1 S$1m KrisFlyer International Sprint. The addition of the horse that is trained by Michael Freeman gives four Singapore runners and ten total participants in this 1200-metre sprint horse race. Out of her 19 starts at Kranji, the five-year-old Ntini has cashed in five times including an impressive showing at the Group 3, 1200-metre Singapore Four-Year-Old Sprint in July 2009.
