Asian Young Guns Challenge
Chief Executive of the Victoria Racing Club (VRC), Mr Dale Monteith has announced the apprentice jockeys that will take part in the Asian Young Guns Challenge at Flemington next month.
The jockeys competing in the three race series are the leading apprentice riders from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Victoria:
Nicholas HALL (Vic)
Equal leading apprentice in 2008/09 Melbourne Premiership (32 wins)
Dean HOLLAND (Vic)
Equal leading apprentice in 2008/09 Melbourne Premiership (32 wins)
Matthew CHADWICK (HK)
Leading apprentice in HK and 3rd on 2009 overall jockeys’ premiership with 43 wins
Derek LEUNG (HK)
Runner up in 2009 HK apprentices’ premiership with 28 wins
Kota FUJIOKA (JPN)
Career winner of 82 races including 2009 Gr. 1 NHK Mile Cup & Gr. 3 Falcon Stakes
Mark EWE (SNG)
Currently 1st on apprentices’ table in Singapore (15 wins)
Jacky LOW (SNG)
Currently 2nd on apprentices’ table in Singapore (9 wins)
When announcing the Asian Young Guns Challenge last month Mr Monteith said, “The general purpose of this concept is to give leading apprentices from overseas an exposure to the Australian Racing scene, as part of their general education and development, as each progresses towards a career as a senior rider.”
The three races that the apprentice riders will be competing in will be run over 1,000 metres (straight course), 1,600 metres and 1,800 metres.
