The 1200-metre, Group One Manikato Stakes will blaze the Moonee Valley Racecourse on the 24th of September and by the looks of it, it will be one exciting race spectacle. With total prize money of about $500,000, this race is a wonderful event for horse racing fans that are eager to place their bets on their favored competitors.

doing-formThis race is named after one of Australian horse racing’s most successful and most loved horses. During his prime in the 1980s, Manikato won the Freeway Stakes twice and five straight William Reid Stakes. All of these wins happened at Moonee Valley. He had 49 career starts, 29 wins and 13 place finishes. Manikato died in 1984 due to an illness and he was laid to rest at Moonee Valley.

This year’s Manikato Stakes sports a strong line-up of competitors. One of the pre-race favourites is the Grahame Begg-trained All Silent who is looking for this third Group One victory in the same number of years. The Belong To Me gelding will have a trial at Warwick Farm on the 10th of September before making the trip to Melbourne for the Manikato.

Running in All Silent’s heels for the top prize of the 2010 Manikato Stakes is the 1200-metre, Group Three Bletchingly Stakes runner-up Stanzout. This gelding that is trained by Colin Davies won a 1000-metre race at Mooney Valley that gives Davies the mindset that he can win the Manikato.

After recovering from a lung infection back in 2007, Davies sees that the eight-year-old Stanzout is back to its peak form that was last seen from him two to three years ago. To gear up for the Manikato Stakes, Stanzout might compete at the 1200-metre, Group Three Bobbie Lewis Quality with a prize pool of $200,000.

One race horse that can give All Silent and Stanzout a run for their money is the David Payne-trained Winter King. The four-year-old Starlight Stakes winner gained victory in his last three races and he showed his dominance by demolishing an impressive field of competitors at the Starlight Stakes. Because this performance, Payne is gearing the One Cool Cat gelding for the 2010 Manikato Stakes.
